China Welcomes Paralympic Delegation after Successful Rio Campaign

And in the arrivals hall, Dame Sarah Storey, whose Paralympic career has seen her win multiple gold medals in swimming and cycling, said athletes boarded the plane early and in high spirits to “get into the champagne”.
Britain confirmed its place as a sporting powerhouse by coming second in both the Olympic and Paralympic medal tables. Full details of the two-day celebration have yet to be released.
The equestrian rider Lee Pearson, who won his 11th gold medal as well as a silver in Rio, said he was surprised by the huge reception: “I think I was one of the first through, the screaming was petrifying and humbling at the same time”.
The Paralympic medallists’ British Airways flight arrived into London’s Heathrow Airport on Tuesday morning (20 September) after they won 147 medals – 64 of them gold – in Brazil. I’ve never been home on a gold-nosed plane before.
Kadeena Cox won cycling gold and athletics gold, silver and bronze and was flagbearer in the closing ceremony while runner Jonnie Peacock took T44 100m gold.
Sports minister Tracey Crouch said: “I know that Manchester – a city with a rich sporting history – and London – with its strong links with the Olympic and Paralympic Games – will host brilliant celebrations that will give the British public a chance to say thank you to our wonderful athlete heroes”.
Crouch said: “The achievements of Team GB and ParalympicsGB made the whole country proud so it is only right that we host fitting celebrations to mark their incredible performances in Rio”.
On Sunday 18 September the Paralympics came to a close in Rio with ParalympicsGB winning 147 medals and finishing second in the medal table.
Allan said she had “many conversations with other National Paralympic Committees in Rio, all wanting to know our secret formula”.

Great Britain’s Paralympic stars delivered an “amazing performance” in Rio according to Telford’s Penny Briscoe, the team’s Chef de Mission.
