The Army said it killed a militant in an operation in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Thursday.

The sources said there is remote possibility of recovering the bodies of terrorists killed in these areas. The militants used incendiary munitions which are used by regular armies to set the tents and shelters on fire.

While bodies of militants have been spotted almost 300 meters short of the Line of the Control, a search is on in neighbouring areas to find out if there are more casualties on ultras’ side, official sources said.

Army officials in New Delhi yesterday had claimed that 15 terrorists had attempted to cross the LoC.

They said any confirmation about the number of terrorists can be made after it retrieves the bodies which is a “remote” possibility now considering the area in which they might be lying.

He said the sanitization and combing operation is going on at both the places to ensure that none of the militants, part of the infiltration group, has escaped and is hiding there. The incident comes two days after a terror attack on army headquarters which killed 18 army men in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir.

The failed infiltration bids yesterday were provided cover by the Pakistani troops, who resorted to ceasefire violation in Uri sector.

“The bodies of the terrorists are so close to the LoC that army might not be able to recover them”, they said.

The spokesperson said the Army has enhanced its vigil in view of increased infiltration attempts along the LoC.
