The Official Recall of Samsung’s Fire-Prone Galaxy Note 7

Meanwhile, Samsung has officially recalled 1 million of its Galaxy Note 7 phones sold before september 15 because of “serious fire and burn hazards”. Antennagate was the name Jobs gave to the controversy over the iPhone 4 when some users complained of dropped calls when touching the edge of the phone, a gesture which bridged a gap separating two antennas.

Samsung has advised consumers in 10 countries to trade their handsets for temporary replacement phones until it releases an updated flagship device.

Ltd. announced Friday it will resume the sale of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in its home country, South Korea, from September 28., according to a report by Reuters.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 7 on September 7 and signs suggest massive pent-up demand for the latest version of the iconic phone. The agency says there have been 92 reports of batteries overheating in the U.S. That includes 26 reports of burns and 55 reports of property damage, including to cars and a garage. Devices should be returned to carrier stores or retail locations where they were purchased.

“As a general matter it’s not a recipe for a successful recall for a company to go out on its own”, commission chairman Elliot Kaye said.

While recalls in the smartphone industry do happen, including for rival Apple Inc, the nature of the problem for the Note 7 is a serious blow to Samsung’s reputation, analysts have said.

In the new video, Tim Baxter, President and COO of Samsung Electronics America, says that Samsung “did not meet the standard of excellence” that consumers expect from the company with regard to the Galaxy Note 7 battery defect. A new improved Note 7 phone will be in most stores in the U.S.by Wednesday.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s battery debacle hums along this week with news that Samsung has started their official national recall duties in the United States. By now everyone on the planet is aware of the Samsung Note7 recall and the battery issues they’ve had.

Extending its Galaxy A series in India, South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics on Friday launched Galaxy A9 Pro smartphone with glass and metal body for Rs 32,490. Consumers have been told to either get a replacement or refund from where they purchased their devices. It took almost two weeks to coordinate the recall with the USA government. Everything from a Samsung Galaxy Core to the new Galaxy S7 were said to have shown behavior similar to the Note 7.

A week later, the company and the commission issued separate statements that urged consumers to stop using the Note 7.
