Google launches Allo, bets on AI to spice up chats
Presented as a privacy-focused messaging app, Google had promised that Allo will store messages only “transiently” and in non-identifiable form. Touted as a “smart” messaging app, Google Allo comes with advanced features created to make texting and chatting extra-fun and more secure. It’s a great way to make plans with other people without having to switch between apps or send screenshots of search results.

Google said the Smart Reply feature will become better over time as it adjusts to users’ typing styles. And which such warning coming from the computer professional, are you ready to use Google Allo? So, what’s so cool about this messaging app? Your friends don’t even need to be using Allo to chat with them, as it can also send chats over SMS. This feature automatically generates a number of suggested responses to messages sent to the user.
Google Allo will be available for Android and iOS in the next few days.
The much awaited Goggle Allo has finally been launched. Google Assistant will walk you through allowing Allo to access your device’s location, and will give you some info on how to use the assistant in future chats.
Allo was unveiled by Google in May at the same time as Google Duo, an app for video calls, which hit the market last month. While you’re chatting, the Assistant can chime in with helpful suggestion or tasks.
Although its chat options are similar to what you’ll find in other chat apps, Allo does have some neat features that help it stand out from the crowd. To succeed in the messaging circus Google will have to do more than that, but for now this version will do the job. If you want to make sure your chats are protected, you have to chat in Incognito mode, which also includes features such as discreet notifications and message expiration. We’ve tried it out this morning and found that the combination of pre-baked chat responses and Google Assistant make for an auto-pilot chatting experience, for better and for worse.
