New York police name man connected to bombing

The string of attacks began on Saturday morning after a small pipe bomb exploded in the New Jersey town of Seaside Park, shortly before a charity run for USA marines and sailors.

The speedy capture of a suspect in the terror bombing in New York City on Saturday was a testament to the vast capabilities of law enforcement. On Sunday, five explosive devices were discovered at a New Jersey train station.

Police discovered the exposed device soon after a bomb exploded four blocks away on 23rd Street in the Chelsea neighbourhood and left 29 people injured. But it’s possible to draw some heartening conclusions about law enforcement – and about the American public.

A device found in a backpack near a train station in New Jersey exploded early Monday while a bomb squad robot was trying to disarm it, authorities said.

Officers sent in a robot to examine the devices, causing one of them to explode.

Authorities zeroed in on him as the potential bomber after a fingerprint and DNA obtained from one of the NY sites and “clear as day” surveillance video from the bombing scene helped identify him, according to three law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.
