South Korea orders additional measures to ensure Samsung Note 7 battery safety

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, in a statement, formally approved the recall plan and said the new batteries being used are safe.

The agency asked Samsung earlier this week to say how long it could extend the refund period for consumers who missed Monday’s deadline.

The FAA said it “strongly advises” passengers to follow its guidance “in light of recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 devices”.

There’s been an unprecedented global recall after defective batteries caused some of the phones to burst into flames.

Samsung has been criticized for the conflicting messages sent about the Note 7, which Brannen chalks up to it being a global company, with stories being reported from other territories.

Samsung, which halted Note 7 sales in countries affected by the recall, plans to resume new sales of the Note 7 in South Korea on September 28.

About a quarter of affected phones had been exchanged in the United States by Tuesday, according to a spokeswoman for Samsung’s USA subsidiary.

“We need more measures to actively inform consumers”, he said. However, it appears like the new change is violating certain Android guidelines.

Airlines have even asked Note 7 owners to power the devices off and avoid charging them while flying.
