Tamil film ‘Visaranai’ India’s official entry to Oscars 2017

Visaranai is selected under “Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards”.

The hard-hitting crime drama film Visaranai directed by award-winning filmmaker Vetri Maaran has been produced by Dhanush under his home banner.

“Out of the 29 movies in the competition, “Visaranai” was chosen by the jury unanimously”, filmmaker Ketan Mehta, jury chairperson of Film Festival of India (FFI) said. In a press release, he said, “My honest thanks to all those who believed in me and my production house”. The film deals with police brutality, corruption and loss of innocence in the face of injustice.

Last year, India put Marathi film “Court” in the Oscar race.

“Visaaranai #Anbum #amaithiyum malarathum (‘Let love and peace bloom’)”, Dinesh tweeted in Tamil.

The film earned critical acclaim earlier past year when it had its world premiere at Venice International Film Festival.

At the 63rd National Awards, “Visaranai” won awards in the categories- best feature film in Tamil, best supporting actor for Samuthirakani and best editing for Kishore Te.
