Unconvincing Dragons Beat Panthers

Dragons forward Jake Marketo is facing a suspension after Thursday night’s win over the Panthers for a unsafe throw on Penrith’s Latu Lelani.

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor will need to call upon yet another back-rower if Marketo is suspended.

Penrith were not out of the contest, though, and their comeback began as David Simmons crossed the line just before the half-hour.

And victory was assured thanks to Widdop, the 26-year-old collecting his own grubber to score a match-winning try before kicking the conversion.

Marshall’s field goal came on the set after Penrith fullback Will Smith had been driven in goal when he fielded Widdop’s kick and the St George Illawarra defenders gave Josh Mansour the same treatment on the next set.

However he will only miss one match if he takes the early guilty plea.

Dragons centre Euan Aitken was put on report after he appeared to place pressure on and twist the neck of Tyrone Peachey with his knee in a tackle, but he wasn’t charged on Friday. The game is to be played at WIN Stadium which see’s home team St George Illawarra Dragons hold favouritism in the market.

The Panthers are expected to be without Elijah Taylor for the rest of the season after he suffered a suspected broken arm.
