Police say a man apparently asphyxiated his two young children using exhaust from a auto, fatally shot his wife’s two older children and shot and slashed his wife at a suburban Detroit home. In both cases, authorities say Green called police and waited for them to arrive, then let them into the home where the bodies were found. The two younger children, 4 and 6 years old, were found dead in their beds, according to police. The man’s 17-year-old stepdaughter and 19-year-old stepson were shot execution style in the basement of the home.
The mother was identified as Faith Green. She had a laceration on her throat and had been shot in the foot.
Court records reviewed by The Associated Press show Faith Green filed for divorce in August, citing a breakdown in the marriage relationship. Her divorce lawyer, Harvey Beck, spoke briefly with the AP, calling the deaths a awful situation, but declining further comment.
A report via abc describes Gregory V Green being released from prison in 2008 after his fifth request for parole in the death of a former wife in 1991.
Officers confirmed to WXYZ that the incident stemmed from a domestic violence situation. Sources say she had been bound in order to watch her oldest children die.
Neighbors who live in the area said the house was always quiet and that the younger children would regularly play in the front yard.
“It’s tough to respond to something like this”, Krause said.
“This is a very rare occurrence and it’s just hard to understand and the motivation”, Dearborn Heights Mayor Daniel S. Paletko said. “I don’t understand what happened in this house, but it’s a super tragedy”.
Police were tight-lipped about details of the crime at a Wednesday press conference, but the Detroit Free Press reports that the two younger victims were the man’s biological children and the two older victims were his stepchildren.
“Just two or three weeks ago, they had a birthday party, balloons and all that stuff out there”, said neighbor Ronnie Jones.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends”, Gavin said.

A man called police around 1 a.m. Wednesday to the home in the 4400 block of Hipp Street, which is near Annapolis and Pelham streets. He then moved them into their bedroom.
