First peek at Hyundai’s new Elantra

Hyundai Motor Company president and chief design officer Peter Schreyer said: “The all-new Elantra captures the car’s unique design characteristics that really place this model in a class of its own”, though, naturally, he would say that. But the rendering shows a sleek profile with clean surfaces and a muscular front end, highlighted by the large hexagonal grille and elongated headlights – by the way, don’t they remind you of Jaguar’s new XE? The 2016 Elantra gets new set of alloy wheels, while the sloping roofline gives it a couple like feel. We also notice the prominent character lines, rakish windscreen and a chrome trim on the bottom half of the windows.

The overall silhouette appears to carry over from the current model with only minor modifications. 53% of the body will be made of high-strength steel and the drag coefficient is expected to stand at 0.27 which would make it one of the most aerodynamic cars in this segment.

The cabin of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra will be significantly improved too as the model will be coming with features such as the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, the remote start, the new infotainment system with an 8-inch touch screen display, the front and rear heated seats, the two USB ports, the Infiniti audio system and several other goodies.

Although this official rendering of the all-new Elantra looks decidedly more realistic than Kia’s new Sportage drawings, we’ll have to wait until the imminent reveal to see if it looks as good as this in the metal. Buyers will be able to order the auto with electronic driving aids like blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
