UN Chief Snubs Pakistan Over Kashmir, Stresses On ‘Dialogue With India’

Talking of the Uri attack, Sharif demanded an “independent inquiry into the extra- judicial killings” and a United Nations fact-finding mission to Kashmir “so that those guilty of these atrocities are punished”.

According to a statement by the Pakistan Mission to the UN, Sharif handed over to Ban the dossier containing information and evidence of alleged atrocities and human rights violations against Kashmiris.

These Indian brutalities are well documented.

China stands ready to deepen all-round practical cooperation with Pakistan and is willing to make joint efforts with Islamabad in injecting new impetus into the development of bilateral relations, Li said.

“At best, if the (Indian) army finds Pakistani soldiers exposed on the other side of the border, they can target them with artillery fire and small arms fire”, Ajai Sahni, counter-terrorism expert and Executive Director of the Institute for Conflict Management, told IANS. “He emphasised that India must be urged to abide by UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir”, the statement said.

Sharif, who had invoked the Kashmir issue in his speech in 2014, stayed off the topic a year ago focusing on development.

“Peace and normalisation between Pakistan and India can not be achieved without a resolution of the Kashmir dispute”, he told world leaders present in the spacious hall of the General Assembly. “This is an objective evaluation, not a partisan position”.

“Our predictions have now been confirmed by events”.

Given determination reflected from the rising tempo of their resistance to India’s repressive misrule the Kashmiris are not going to surrender their right to freedom anytime soon. The Pakistani side cherishes friendship with China, and is committed to promoting bilateral cooperation, Sharif was quoted as saying.

He also dismissed reports about Pakistan’s threat of use of tactical nukes, saying that “An empty vessel makes the most noise” and asserted that steps will be taken to ensure that incidents like Uri strike are not repeated.

“We hope that the situation between India and Pakistan will not escalate”.

Insisting that peace and normalisation between Pakistan and India can not be achieved without a resolution of the Kashmir dispute, Sharif made a number of allegations with regard to the current unrest in the valley.

Stating that the present government has also done little to correct the imbalance in defence capabilities, Sahni said: “Unless capacities are enormously augmented, our strategic options will remain severely restricted”.

“We have introduced “state-of-the-art” measures to strengthen the safety and security of our nuclear materials and facilities. This is self incrimination by the Pakistan Prime Minister”.

“Judged on the basis of objective criteria, and without discrimination, Pakistan is fully eligible for membership of the Nuclear Suppliers’ Group”.

“Similar false promises it has made to us – the global community- on terrorism”. “My country has been the principal victim of terrorism including that supported, sponsored and financed from overseas”, he told the 193-member Assembly.

“This has only reinforced our resolve to eliminate the scourge of terrorism”.

“Yes, there will be costs incurred – human and material – but the objective is to inflict heavy punishment on the Pakistan military and Delhi must remain resolute in staying the course”.

Another diplomatic success came for India as BRICS group at United Nations accepted the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) treaty proposed by India. “These lie in poverty and ignorance, political and social injustice and oppression, foreign intervention and occupation and denial of the legitimate rights of peoples and nations, especially the right to self-determination”.

“Even today we have heard support by the Prime Minister of Pakistan for a self-acknowledged commander of a known terrorist organisation”, she said.
