Footage of the band working in the studio surfaced on Jamie Hewlett’s personal Instagram just a few months ago, and we can’t help but wonder if this account means the new music is coming soon!

However, the band – or their PR people – have been a hub of activity on social media over the last day or so, posting various throwbacks to their albums, awards, songs and magazine covers.

From confirming collaborations with De La Soul and Snoop Dogg to the possible release date, the Gorillaz’s album is one of the most anticipated albums in the near future.

They also posted YouTube and Spotify links for plenty of their tracks, and updated their website to be a playlist of all their music videos. We’ve always been baited on by brief interview snippets and cryptic social media shots, but now it seems as though something real is about to transpire.

The group hasn’t dropped new music since their fourth album The Fall reached listeners in 2011, leaving fans at the edge of their seats in anticipation of fresh songs, and as the band prepares to put out a fifth record in 2017, the enigmatic crew has made quite a unusual online debut.

In anticipation of the Gorillaz forthcoming album, both Facebook and Twitter erupted earlier today with the announcement of a new Instagram account under the Gorillaz name.

But what is known for sure is that the album will feature some unbelievable collaborations with incredible artists such as Snoop, De La Soul, Vic Mensa, Liam Bailey, and Jean Michel-Jarre.
