Jimmy Garoppolo listed as doubtful, unlikely to play Thursday

Garoppolo is expected to miss the game against the Texans, but will probably be available for week 4 and the Patriots game against the Buffalo Bills.

Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Garoppolo was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s walk-through practice.

So if Brissett goes down tomorrow, and Garoppolo can’t play through a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder, Edelman will be prepared to handle a modified version of the offense. While Garoppolo’s Week 3 status may not be finalized until the release of the Patriots’ inactives, the doubtful designation and shoulder injury in play here make counting on him in fantasy lineups this week a very risky roll.

There are also wild card players than can come into play as well, with O’Brien noting that receiver Danny Amendola “can also throw the ball”. It presents yet another preparation challenge for a Houston defense that has held its opponents under 15 points in each of their two victories over Chicago and Kansas City. Two quarterbacks will face off for the first-time ever.

1. Return of Vintage Watt After a first week of the season where he was clearly shaking off rust, and a second week of the season where he took a big leap forward, what should we expect out of J.J. Watt on Thursday night? It’s a setup that required both patience and discipline.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go eat. all of a sudden, I’m hungry for brisket.

WATT WARMING UP: Last year’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt isn’t quite back to full form after July surgery to fix a herniated disk in his back. “It’s been a learning process since I got here”. On Monday, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said the team’s approach would be contingent on how things progressed with Garoppolo. But I don’t think we’d be happy going 1-15 if we had an injury at one position. “He has improved every day”, Belichick said.

Edelman, like so many NFL players, was a quarterback in a past football life, but he was more successful than the likes of tight end AJ Derby (Arkansas), linebacker Jamie Collins (Franklin County High School), running back D.J. Foster (Saguaro High) and others.

TRAINER’S ROOM: Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski began the week still limited by a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for the first two games. “I haven’t been in full pads for a while, so I kind of felt like I wanted to get used to it”, he said. So what I’m saying is Gilette Stadium is like the nexus of the “slow start” universe on Thursday night – the Texans can’t let that happen. “I wasn’t allowed to wear them, so I had to take them off”.

Right now the New England Patriots are running out of options at the quarterback spot due to the recent injury suffered by Jimmy Garoppolo. This is probably the reason why the team reportedly entertained a number of players recently including Sean Renfr
