Injured Ana Makes Woz Roll Right Back Home
Caroline Wozniacki was rock solid again on Tuesday night, jumping ahead early and taking advantage of a hobbled Anastasija Sevastova to advance to the U.S. Open semifinals with a 6-0, 6-2 victory inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The other women’s quarterfinal features two top-10 players: second-seeded Angelique Kerber, this year’s Australian Open champ, and No. 7 Roberta Vinci, last year’s U.S. Open runner-up.
She lost U.S. Open finals in 2009 against Kim Clijsters and 2014 against Serena Williams.
“I’m not surprised that I could make it this far because I always believe in myself and I always think that when I got on court I always believe that I’ll win the match”. I knew she wasn’t going to give up.
Caroline Wozniacki refused to discuss questions about her possible retirement from tennis after reaching the semi-finals of the US Open on Tuesday. “I think she does an unbelievable job keeping the balls deep in the court, so you feel like you can’t dictate the point right away, which I think makes people go for things too soon”. “When I feel ready to open up and say something, then I will. Back then I was just trying and grinding for staying at the top of the rankings for as long as possible”, added the Danish star who keeps a second home in NY. Her father and coach, Piotr Wozniacki spoke with Danish press about it, effectively spilling the beans.
But for Wozniacki, ranking like age, is just a number. Bet Kerber win with a handicap – 2.5 for the game.
Wozniacki next meets second-seeded German Angelique Kerber, who was a 7-5 6-0 victor over Italy’s Roberta Vinci. You know, just I have gotten a lot of matches here, which is great.
“It’s always tough to play Roberta, she always comes out to play great tennis”, said Kerber, who last made the semi-finals in NY in 2011.
“I just need to step in, hit the ball and just go for it”, she smiled.
American eighth seed Madison Keys claimed a dramatic 7-5 4-6 7-6 (7-3) comeback win over a tearful Naomi Osaka. When the moment is tough and both players are so close, she’s focused. That would be distinctive, except that he will play somebody who has won only eight sets in five matches. The match truly looks even-handed as Keys has been tested in NY while Wozniacki’s ranking doesn’t reflect her level of play at the moment. “I play tennis because I love the sport”, he emphasized on Tuesday. She continues to sign endorsement deals, but her once shining tennis star is quickly fading away. In the victory, Wozniacki won 70 percent of her first serve points and 75 percent of her second serve points.
ON THIS DATE (Sept. 5, 1990): In a quarterfinal match, Pete Sampras outlasts Ivan Lendl 6-4, 7-6, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2, ending Lendl’s streak of eight consecutive U.S. Open finals.
“I was crying [after the match] because it was a great match today and I had some physical problems and I fight a lot and the important thing was to win”, she said.
“Caroline is always a tough opponent”, Kerber said.

“I was trying. I felt like that I really made the chances but I just didn’t take them unfortunately”.
