A backpack believed to contain pipe bombs exploded early Monday in Elizabeth, New Jersey, during an examination by a police robot near the town’s train station. No injuries were reported, but nearby structure were damaged, and the blast was treated as a possible terror act. The mayor warned that other explosions were expected.
Bollwage made his comments while standing across the street from a fried chicken restaurant where Ahmad Khan Rahami worked. Rahami was arrested Monday after a shootout with police in Linden that left two officers wounded.
And a manhunt is under way for 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami after NY police identified him as wanted in connection with the bombing Saturday night in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, which wounded 29 people.
Shortly after 8 a.m. Monday, Amtrak spokeswoman Christina E. Leeds said there were no delays in the Lancaster area or corridor related to the explosions in New York City and New Jersey. An unexploded pressure-cooker device was also found four blocks away and was being analyzed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Amtrak said 2,400 passengers were affected and that trains were being brought into other stations for people to get other transportation.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Transit says service has been suspended between Newark Liberty Airport and Elizabeth.
Authorities said the Manhattan blast and the explosion in New Jersey at the site of a charity race to benefit Marines and sailors, did not appear to be connected, although they also said they were not ruling anything out.
A powerful explosion rocked Manhattan’s popular Chelsea neighbourhood late on Saturday after a pressure-cooker bomb packed with shrapnel detonated.
It contained up to five devices, Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage said.
Bollwage said to expect more detonations. It is unclear whether the Elizabeth explosion is connected.
ABC News reports that investigators are exploring the possibility that the two explosions in NY and New Jersey are linked to the same bomber or bombers by what appear to be similar types of cell phones.

Authorities said Sunday night that surveillance video shows what appears to be the same person moving bombs into place at the site of the NY explosion, and a few blocks north.
