It was just one day after Channel 4 secured the rights for the show that Mel and Sue stepped down.

Farewell to soggy bottoms indeed.

“If you were a big retailer or a food manufacturer, you’d really think twice about whether you want to get involved with it or not”, said Shuttleworth, especially as she believes the BBC could make a rival programme with Mary Berry as the star.

In a statement, he said: “Since I was a kid, baking has been part of my life”.

Not only has she judged seven series of the baking competition, she has also judged Bake Off spin-offs The Great Comic Relief Bake Off, The Great Sport Relief Bake Off, and Junior Bake Off. Best of all, I have felt so pleased to experience other people getting the baking bug, just as I did when my dad helped me make my first loaf.

The BBC had said it “made a very strong offer to keep the show but we are a considerable distance apart on the money”. It’s possible that Channel 4 – realising that they’d paid £75 million for an empty tent – would then also have done the decent thing, and handed the format back to the BBC.

Jess Taylor ‏wrote: “Badly done Paul Hollywood. badly done”.

Hollywood said he was “delighted” to be staying on the show. It is a decision that has divided the judges, with Paul Hollywood staying on. “It’s all four of them or nothing”.

The split of one of TV’s most famous pairings has been compared to the divorce of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. “I will miss her”.

And he added in a further statement: “Let there be no doubt: I have loved every minute of my time working with Mary”. I have learned so much from her and we are great friends inside and outside the tent.

The final series of the Great British Bake Off on BBC is now airing on Wednesdays at 8pm on BBC One. “I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change”.

LONDON (AP) – “The Great British Bake Off” is losing one of its main ingredients. “Farewell to soggy bottoms”. Paul’s presence will ensure the culture of Bake Off continues in the tent as it makes its move to Channel 4.
