State of emergency in Charlotte after second night of protests

The distrust of police continued after Wednesday’s shooting of a protester, with many demonstrators maintaining he was shot by police.

Footage recorded immediately afterwards showed a black man lying in a pool of blood as people shouted for help before being ordered to move back by police.

“After listening to remarks made by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Putney today, we have more questions than answers about Keith’s death”.

Frustration over the death of Keith Lamont Scott continues as demonstrators take to the streets again. The police fired tear gas around 11 p.m. ET Wednesday night to break up the crowd.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney has rejected those claims and said the gun had been recovered by detectives.

Calls for police to release the video increased.

“I think the families feel, many people in the community feel that there’s information there that they need to be privy to”, Adams said on MSNBC. An attorney representing Crutcher’s family said Crutcher committed no crime and gave officers no reason to shoot him.

The video could be key to resolving the chasm between police, who say Scott refused repeated commands to drop his gun, and residents who say he was unarmed.

However, Scott’s family allege that the disabled father-of-seven had only been carrying a book, hinting that police may have placed a handgun in Scott’s vehicle in order to justify his killing.

The officer involved in ten shooting was a black officer and he was not wearing a body camera but other officers on the scene were.

One person was shot and four officers were injured Wednesday night as Gov. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.

Thursday, some businesses are telling their employees to work from home.

Mayor Jennifer Roberts told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Thursday that city officials are talking about imposing a curfew. He said the man was shot because he posed a threat. McCrory also announced that the N.C. National Guard and N.C. State Highway Patrol would be deployed to Charlotte after a request from police there.

Federal help also is on the way, with the Justice Department sending to Charlotte a team of trained peacekeepers created to help resolve community conflict. Police did not shoot the man, city officials said. People are then told to back up from the scene. They are calling for action to be taken against the officer. The city managed to pull through a racially charged shooting three years ago without the unrest that erupted in recent years in places such as Baltimore, Milwaukee and Ferguson, Missouri.

City officials also said the gunshot was sacked by one civilian at another, not by police. The jury deadlocked and the charge was dropped last summer.

Protesters confront bicycle officers as anger built in the city.

One man was critically injured in Wednesday’s protest.

The regional United Way building across the street from the hall was also damaged. Videos and pictures on Twitter showed reporters and other people being attacked. “He didn’t get out waving no gun, he got out like this”, said Taheshia Williams.

His comments were an apparent reference to a profanity-laced, hourlong video that a woman claiming to be Scott’s daughter posted to Facebook soon after the shooting, saying her father had an unspecified disability and was unarmed. “You know, I saw that young man on the ground”.
