Palestinian stabs Israeli police before being shot
The attack happened by the Herod’s Gate entrance to the Old City in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, a short distance from the Damascus Gate where a Jordanian was shot dead on Friday after trying to stab a police officer.

A female police officer, 38, who was stabbed in the neck, was described as being in very serious condition at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
The Israeli army announced on Saturday it was deploying an additional battalion to reinforce the Hebron area following the uptick in violence around the city. No Israeli troops were injured during the incident.
When the border police approached, one of the suspects pulled a knife and attempted to stab them. Even if the young Palestinians who are carrying out the acts of terror are doing so on their own – an idea not everyone accepts – the sophistication of the attacks appears to becoming more acute and the accumulation of weaponry has security authorities anxious.
The incident came after four Palestinians and one Jordanian were killed by Israeli forces in recent days amid an upsurge in violence in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Police identified the perpetrator as a Palestinian in his 20s from east Jerusalem and said he had followed the officers before attacking them.
Around the same time, a soldier shot and killed a Palestinian man and seriously wounded a Palestinian woman, both 18 years old, who carried out a car-ramming attack near a Jewish settlement next to Hebron, wounding three Israeli teenagers. The two assailants were from Hebron, and were aged 17 and 21, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
Worldwide powers have criticised Israel’s continued settlement expansion in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, with more than 500,000 Israelis now living in outposts that the global community considers illegal, as well as incitement to violence by Palestinian leaders.
