Angela Lansbury revives ‘Beauty and the Beast’ role in NY
Lansbury surprised the audience and performed the title song at the anniversary screening with Menken accompanying her at the piano.

Her surprise performance 25 years later – at the age of 90 (!) – earned her a standing ovation from the audience at Alice Tully Hall in NY.
She even adds the “Run along to the cupboard now, Chip” line from the movie at the end of the song!
Before the Beauty and the Beast screening, the original cast reflected on the film and its legacy during that on-stage Q&A.
“I think she’s ideal casting!” said O’Hara, when asked about her opinion of Watson as Belle on “Beauty and the Beast”. Disney originally released the animated classic in 1991. There are light applause before it is revealed that Angela Lansbury is going to sing and everyone goes insane.
