The CM and other ministers would meet with the governor on September 23.
Since both states have opposed the interim directive of the supervisory committee, the apex court today asked Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to file their objections. The annual requirement of Bengaluru city alone is more than 19 TMC of water to be supplied to the citizens by the authorities of the State of Karnataka.
“Immediately Assembly session should be called where the issue should be discussed in detail, the decision taken there should be informed to the Supreme Court”, BS Yeddyurappa has said.
Soon after the meeting, senior ministers had gone into a cabinet meeting.
According to NDTV, Siddaramaiah said implementing the order would be “difficult, since we do not have water”.
Finally, Mr. Krishna had submitted ” unconditional apology” to the Supreme Court after it made known its intention to punish Karnataka for contempt of court, putting an end to the controversy.
In Mandya district, the epicentre of Cauvery agitation, protesters at several places blocked the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.
Senior advocate Fali S Nariman, who appeared for Karnataka, argued that the State is reeling under deficit monsoons since June and in this circumstance it was hard to abide by the Tribunal’s order to provide 192 tmc water to Tamil Nadu for irrigation purposes. We are aggrieved by the order of the committee. “I humbly request people to maintain peace”, Home Minister G Parameshwara said. The government kept the opposition in dark and did not take the people and farmers into confidence. The all-party meeting has suggested the convening of a special session of the legislature to address the issue.
Despite the day-long discussions on Monday, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu had failed to reach an agreement on the quantum of water to be released.
He also held the state government singularly responsible for this “disastrous consequence”.
Facing criticism over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the issue, despite the state writing to him twice seeking his intervention, the state BJP leaders have chose to boycott the all-party meet.
“.judgement needs to be appealed to a fuller bench”.
