Rouhani also said in a speech to the annual United Nations General Assembly that the United States’ “lack of compliance” with a nuclear deal reached with six major powers and Iran in 2015 should be “rectified forthwith”.
Following a meeting of the six world powers and Iran on Thursday on the sidelines of the annual United Nations gathering of world leaders, the European Union’s top diplomat Federica Mogherini said the common assessment was that the deal was being implemented.
Tehran has been frustrated that foreign banks have shied away from dealing with the country.
Rouhani said terrorists hide their nefarious intents behind religious literature, instrumentalizing a compassionate religion by spreading extremism.
The court ruled that almost $2 billion in frozen Iranian assets must be given to American families of victims of the 1983 bombing of a U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Lebanon and other attacks blamed on Iran. Donald Trump called the Iranian nuclear deal a disgusting terrible deal.
Rouhani said the deal was a “win-win approach” and should serve as an example of how “complicated global problems” can be resolved diplomatically. The President extended an invitation to visit Iran to the prime minister, who accepted with pleasure, saying he has great affection for Iranian brothers.
“The defenseless people of Yemen are subjected to daily aerial bombardment”, he said. He assigned particular blame to the Saudi government and United States.
Rouhani urged the Saudis to “compensate for past mistakes”.
Tehran has widely used the Takfiri term for militant groups that may have links with regional Sunni states such as Saudi Arabia.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the UNGA on Wednesday expressed a desire to be part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory in Pak-Iran bilateral ties.
He also denounced the bloodshed in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
He said the 9/11 disaster led to a devastating war in the Middle East and the spread of insecurity across the globe and sew the seeds of borderless terrorism.

He otherwise referred to Israel only once, unlike predecessors such as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who made hostility to Israel a centerpiece of their speeches.
