According to the criminal complaint, Ahmad Khan Rahami faces charges of use of weapons of mass destruction, bombing a place of public use, destruction of property by means of fire or explosive, and use of a destructive device in furtherance of a crime of violence.
Mohammad Rahami said he told the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his concerns after his son was arrested for allegedly stabbing one of his four brothers in a leg during a fight in their Elizabeth, New Jersey, home.
The father made the statement about his son being a terrorist to New Jersey police in 2014, when Rahami was arrested after a domestic dispute and accused of stabbing his brother.
Two police officers were shot and hurt in the exchange, Christian Bollwage, Mayor of Elizabeth, New Jersey said.
Investigators are still gathering evidence and have not publicly tied Rahami to those devices, though Sweeney noted they aren’t “ruling anything out”.
Mohammad Rahami, suspect’s father: They checked that nearly two months.
In a statement, the National Sikh Campaign said this was a fearless and courageous act by Bains.
“Folks around here, they don’t get scared”.
“Two years ago I go to the F.B.I. because my son was doing really bad, O.K.?” he said. Still, some of the family restaurant’s customers said Rahami was more likely to talk about his interest in cars than to mention faith.
Asked by NBC News if he knew his son was allegedly involved in bomb-making, Mohammad Rahami said, “No”. Two officers were shot in the chaos, but are expected to make full recoveries. Both have been released from the hospital. Rahami was charged with five counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer stemming from the shootout.
“Now they say he is a terrorist”, he continued.
At age 23, Rahami traveled to Afghanistan in 2011 – the same year he received USA citizenship. Federal prosecutors said they were still drawing up charges over the weekend bombings in New York City and a New Jersey seaside town that wounded 29 people. He also added that there were other people in surveillance video captured of Rahami before the explosions.
US President Barack Obama is scheduled to be one of the first speakers this morning.
She’s now in the United Arab Emirates, where she’s spoken with USA officials, the report says. “This is all an important part to figure out why he did this”. Rahami left that job in 2011 because he wanted to take a trip to Afghanistan, Spriggs said.
Rahami contacted N.J. Rep. Albio Sires’ office from Islamabad in Pakistan in 2014, CNN said.
