Lyft predicts self-driving cars to power business in five years
Lyft and GM have since launched Express Drive, a vehicle rental program, in six cities this year.

A new invention is soon to be global spread: the concept of self-driving cars.
The treatise fails to explain why Lyft will be the company that accomplishes these extremely lofty goals.
A transport revolution is coming thanks to the technology – that’s according to the founder of ride sharing startup Lyft, a rival to Uber, John Zimmer. The autonomous cars will be exceeding the normal cars driven by humans in no less than five years. The cars developed by Uber have a backup driver, ready to take control of the vehicle if the technology fails.
Automaker GM had invested $500 million in Lyft in January and was previously reported to be interested in acquiring the ride-hailing company, an attempt that was said to be rebuffed. In other words, Zimmer just invented the bar auto. “Eventually, we’ll look at owning a auto in much the same way”.
Zimmer’s blog did not stop with aspirations for his own company. Parking lots can morph into green spaces and parks. Studies show that a personal auto is used only 4 percent of the time. “There’s the private version if you want to do work on your ride, there’s the sleeper auto if you wish to sleep, there’s the home entertainment auto if your family and friends wish to view motion pictures, there’s the bar vehicle to have a good time with other individuals on your ride house”. He also believes that self-driving cars will dominate Lyft’s network of cars by 2021.
Among other things, Zimmer predicts that within just five years most of the cars in Lyft’s fleet will drive themselves. The network of railroad tracks, the first revolution, determined where many cities and town were located.
“Once this happens – once autonomous networks provide better service at a lower cost – our country will pass a tipping point”.
While Zimmer gives Musk credit for seeing the importance of a shared network of cars, he.disputes Musk’s vision.because individual vehicle owners won’t want to rent their cars to strangers. In ten years we will all benefit from this.
Zimmer also touched on the matter of owning cars as personal transport, writing that they would be phased out eventually. Drivers will be needed to let the growing market become more prosperous.
And it seems the Lyft co-founder is not the only one predicting a self-driving future.
According to Zimmer, Lyft will work to ensure that it has edge on the interior experience and the quality of service. Is it safer this way?

Zimmer does not think the need for human rideshare drivers will ever go away.
