Hackett wrote in a blog post that AppleCare chose to replace his phone.

While there’s no official explanation yet for what the hissing sound is and no word from Apple, it appears to be making the odd sound when the handset’s processing power is pushed to the limit.

It’s unclear at this point if the noise is a general issue of all iPhone 7 models or if it is just a problem with defective batches.

Stephen Hackett, who blogs at 512 Pixels, shared a recording of his iPhone 7 Plus making a hissing sound as he said it was restoring from iCloud.

The sound, which appears to be coming from near the Apple logo, is most probably a coil whine, which is present in varying degrees in most of the phones but it is usually not noticeable.

Apple has not addressed the issue yet.

TechCrunch writer (and former Apple employee) Darrell Etherington responded that his “brand new, just-unboxed [device is] doing the same thing right now”. But could a serious issue lurk inside the latest iPhone 7 as well?
