Shows on Star English make a clean sweep at Emmy

Courtney B. Vance won an Emmy for his performance as lawyer Johnnie Cochran in The People v. O.J. Simpson. That alone was an excellent example of why this Kimmel hosting stint went so much better than the last one: He had a better sense of where the “too much” line lies, and other than an ill-advised in memoriam joke, he avoided crossing it. Besides the wins for writing, directing and the series as a whole, the show picked up numerous technical awards.

“When Maggie Smith finds out she’s been awarded with an Emmy she has the same reaction we get when we get Bed Bath And Beyond coupons in the mail”.

“I think that “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics”, she said.

Ben Mendelsohn of “Bloodline” won best supporting drama actor.

The 81-year-old actress, given the nod for her work in Downton Abbey, has now shown her wicked sense of humour as she hit back at the USA funnyman in a hilarious acceptance speech. “Our show started out as a political satire but it feels now like sobering documentary”.

Smith showed two can play that game and put out a statement formally accepting her award.

After being absent during Sunday night’s awards show, the Downton Abbey star and outstanding supporting actress in a drama series victor took to Twitter to accept the honor and respond to host Jimmy Kimmel, who made her the butt of his longest opening-monologue joke.

We know people care more about who you’re wearing than who actually wins an Emmy, but history was made Sunday night at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Rami Malek won the Emmy for Actor in a Drama Series for the first season of “Mr. Robot“, available on Amazon Prime.

Last night the Emmy Awards aired on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel as host.

Kate McKinnon won best supporting actress in a comedy for her work on “Saturday Night Live”.

In his breezy monologue, Kimmel scolded multi-honoured Maggie Smith for never attending the Emmy ceremony: “She shows up at the Oscars”.

When Minnie Driver and Michael Weatherly announced the star had won the award during Sunday’s ceremony, Jimmy jokingly grabbed the gong and said: “Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found”.

But Viola Davis of “How to Get Away with Murder” failed to repeat her 2015 best drama actress win, the first for a woman of color. But maybe we shouldn’t be surprised because she hasn’t even seen a single episode of Downton Abbey, the very show which earned her the majority of her Emmys.
