In an interview with CNN, Roberts said she thought the curfew was the most effective way to maintain peace in the city.

Panthers safety Tre Boston tweeted, “Wow this actually hurts, a city I’ve grown to love”.
Protesters massed on the Charlotte’s streets for a third night Thursday, though the demonstrations were peaceful.
Major companies with offices in downtown Charlotte are telling their employees to stay home after two nights of violent protests following the shooting of a black man by police earlier this week.
This story will be updated.
Demonstrators chanted “release the tape” while briefly blocking an intersection near Bank of America headquarters in the heart of the city’s business district.
At one point police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators blocking a main highway.
Charlotte’s police chief says he plans to show video of an officer shooting a black man to the slain man’s family, but the video won’t be immediately released to the public.
Scott’s family, however, said he was unarmed when he was killed and was instead reading a book in his vehicle while waiting to pick up his child from school – a detail that quickly went viral on social media and was seized upon by protesters here.
According to police, Keith Scott, 43, was shot and killed by officers on Tuesday after he refused to drop a hand gun.
Putney also said that protesters have already made up their minds about what happened that night, despite not having seen the video.
“Therefore, I can’t see a weapon in his hands or him pointing a weapon that would be in his hands”, Putney said.
Protests in Charlotte have occurred nightly since the Scott shooting.
The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority oversees the NASCAR Hall of Fame building and the convention center next door.
One protester was shot and critically wounded; city officials said police did not shoot the man. Pat McCrory after a second straight night of racial unrest of the sort that has convulsed other US cities and seemed at odds with Charlotte’s image as a diverse, forward-looking city of the New South.
Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts waited until Thursday’s protests were underway for more than an hour before signing documents for the citywide curfew that runs from midnight to 6 a.m. Police have said that Scott stepped out of the vehicle with a gun and was shot after ignoring orders to drop the weapon.
Residents say Scott was unarmed, holding only a book, and disabled by a brain injury.
But Charlotte-Mecklenberg police Chief Kerr Putney told reporters earlier Thursday that he’s not going to do that because he doesn’t want to jeopardize the investigation. He said Scott can be seen with a gun and ankle holster in the video.
“It was incredibly hard for members of the Scott family to view these videos, but as a matter of greater good and transparency the Scott family asks that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department publicly [and] immediately release both of the videos they watched today”, said the statement tweeted by WCNC-TV. In addition to police transparency, Ms Scott called for calm from people seeking justice for her husband.
After viewing two videos of the shooting, Keith Lamont Scott’s family said it was unclear what he was holding in his hands when police shot him, CNN reported.
The family did not attend the news conference because they were still grieving, the attorney said. Bamberg gave no details on what the wife saw.
“I can tell you we did not find a book that has been referenced to”, Putney said during a press briefing. The shooting has thrust Charlotte to the fore of a national debate about access to police body cams.
The killing inflamed racial tensions in a city that seemed to have steered clear of the troubles that engulfed other places.
Police spokesman Keith Trietley says in a news release that 26-year-old Justin Carr died Thursday at the hospital.

The ACLU and the state NAACP have also called for the release of the videos.
