Game of Thrones has made TV history by becoming the most decorated fictional show at the Emmy Awards since the prestigious event began in 1949. The HBO hit show, based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novel series, competed with “The Americans“, “Better Call Saul“, “Downton Abbey“, “Homeland“, “House of Cards” and “Mr. Robot“.

The Emmy broadcast rotates each September among the four biggest broadcast networks – ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox – and is created to drum up excitement for the beginning of the fall season. “This is other-izing with a capital O. The People v. O.J. Simpson also had a stellar night.

As a matter of fact, Kimmel joked after she won yet another trophy for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, Kimmel joked that he was going to put it in the lost and found.
Tatiana Maslany of BBC America’s “Orphan Black” won the best actress in drama award, beating favorites Claire Danes and last year’s victor Viola Davis.
The opening sketch followed the comedian as he attempted to get a ride to the Emmy’s from various people, including late night’s James Corden and the cast of ABC’s “Modern Family“.

Jill Soloway won her second consecutive Emmy for comedy series directing for her work on “Transparent“.
