“The crew became fairly concerned and they immediately took the food trolley back to where it belongs and locked it away”.

“We just survived a frightening flight (on) Jetstar – Sydney to Cairns but have been diverted to Brisbane after the cabin filled with smoke and the engines were making unusual sounds”, Heidi Green wrote.
Jetstar engineers are investigating after one of the airline’s planes was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Brisbane late on Thursday afternoon.
Flight JQ956 was on its way from Sydney to Cairns when the captain shut down one of the aircraft’s engines and diverted to Brisbane “as a precaution” the budget airline said.
“While it’s rare for something like this to happen, our crew. handled the situation very professionally”, the spokesman said.
Passengers have recalled the terrifying moment when smoke started filling the cabin of a Jetstar plane bound for Cairns, Australia in a scene they say was “straight out of a movie”.
“Within seconds smoke came up under my seat under my legs and up into my face and the man who was next to me”, she said.
Following a four-hour stopover, passengers continued their journey north.
Jetstar, which is owned by Qantas, disputed this, claiming smoked only appeared after the plane landed safely in Brisbane.
Video shot by a passenger showed smoke in the cabinet as staff prepared to get passengers off the aircraft on landing.
“The Captain made a decision to shut down one of the engines as a precaution and diverted the aircraft to Brisbane”, the spokesperson said.

No emergency was declared and no one on the flight had required any medical attention.
