Mariners reviewing options after Steve Clevenger’s tweets
The Seattle Mariners issued a statement Thursday evening about the controversial anti-Black Lives Matter tweets sent by catcher Steve Clevenger. We strongley disagree with the language and tone of his comments.

Clevenger is on the Mariners’ 60-day disabled list.
And later: “BLM is pathetic once again”. Obama you are pathetic once again!
The Glen Burnie native then turned his profile into a private account after word spread about his tweets.
“Black people beating whites when a thug got shot holding a gun by a black officer haha s– cracks me up!”
“The Seattle Mariners are very disappointed in the tweets posted on Steve Clevenger’s account”, GM Jerry Dipoto said. Clevenger had also mocked the civil rights campaign Black Lives Matter in referencing the Charlotte shooting of Keith Lamont Scott – a black man who was killed by police Tuesday – and the violent protests in the city that have followed. Screen shots of the tweets showed Clevenger made disparaging comments about protesters and President Barack Obama, saying “everyone involved should be locked behind bars like animals!”. The statement went on to note that the team was now “examining all internal options”, but no decision was made about a potential punishment yet. “Keep kneeling for the Anthem!”, read another. In the first he apparently referenced the protests in Charlotte and the recent national-anthem protests by athletes, including those in the NFL. Joining with Kaepernick, the Seattle Seahawks have chosen to link arms in demonstration of unity before both regular-season games.

Clevenger, 30, has played in 22 games for the Mariners this season after they acquired him from the Orioles in the Mark Trumbo trade this past offseason.
