Klopp wants Liverpool players, fans to show patience

With Simon Mignolet having been replaced by summer signing Loris Karius for the EFL Cup win at Derby, plenty are eager to know whether Klopp will keep faith with the former Mainz stopper at the weekend. “I know we will be ready”.

“I played my first game against Burton and I got injured, which was a little bit unlucky, so now I have to get my fitness back and see what happens”.

“I think we all can improve: the team, coaches, manager and the crowd”, Klopp said.

“We bought very good players and everyone is almost fit – we have a strong squad”. Why should a team who people think is weaker than us not have the opportunity to win? But if we accept before that it is hard then we can perform and that is what we should do.

There remains a sense of distrust about what the side will achieve while such aberrations occur, but Klopp feels Liverpool supporters are as guilty as the players for saving their best form for more glamorous games.

Karius was relatively untroubled at Derby but did impress with his sweeping abilities having regularly taken a starting position just outside the penalty area. There’s nothing to say about this here but as always when I decide for the next game it’s a decision for one player and not against another player.

“Adam, Hendo and Gini have played well together – you can see by the results and the good football”, he said.

“We could say there is an global break coming up so give Loris a home game and Swansea away and then both have had the chance to show what they are”. “Daniel made something like a final test yesterday so has had three days without training but [he] should be in training today”, Klopp said.

‘It (Sturridge’s availability) depends on the training.

The match has also been selected as one of the games to be broadcast on Sky, marking it out as one of the major ties of the round and meaning there should be no difficulty in finding it for fans.

Klopp called for Anfield “anger” to ensure the same approach that brought success against Chelsea last Friday, insisting the issue is not tactical if teams play a defensive style.
