ESPN to Honor Vin Scully Tonight

ESPN will honor the legendary Los Angeles Dodgers baseball announcer Vin Scully throughout the September 21 edition of WEDNESDAY NIGHT BASEBALL presented by Hankook Tire when the Dodgers host their long-time rivals, the second-place San Francisco Giants, at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN.

The low-scoring affair featured a pitching duel between Johnny Cueto and Rich Hill. It wasn’t even as insane as Dodgers outfielder Reggie Smith going into the stands twice in four seasons to fight Giants fans.

Throughout the years, Scully has transcended into much more than the Dodgers broadcaster, but more of a baseball treasure. “This was just a well pitched ballgame and unfortunately we came up short”.

It has seemed like that the first two nights of this series. “One mistake to Nunez, a fastball that was supposed to be down”.

“Following a bench-clearing scuffle involving Madison Bumgarner and Yasiel Puig on Monday night, Puig, Adrian Gonzalez and other Dodgers posted pictures on social media of themselves wearing T-shirts with the hashtag “#Dontlookatme” with hands covering their eyes.

“For me, when I’m out there and have the ball in my hand to pitch, to be honest, that’s all I’m thinking about”, Hill said. “I take 100 percent responsibility for this. It’s not acceptable to miss like that at this level”.

Nunez scored the Giants first run of the game when he hit a fly ball to deep left field with one out in the top of the fifth that upon first glance appeared to hit the top of the wall and bounce back into the field of play. “But basically, once I call it an end, which will be October 2, I’ll try very hard to kind of just stay back and be the very normal guy that I am”.

“He asked me, ‘Why you looking at me?'” Puig said after the game through a translator.

This story has been corrected to show that Brandon Belt homered in the ninth inning for the Giants, not Hunter Pence.

“We’ll tie the ribbon on the package in San Francisco, and that will be that”, he said.

In 1958, when the Dodgers played their first game in Los Angeles, I was a resident of that city and barely 20 years old. He was 3 for 4. When I come to Dodger Stadium, for instance, I know the lady on the elevator, and when I get off the elevator, I know the men who run the press box, and then I see all my pals who are writers and fellow broadcasters and people who are all assigned to cover the game, and I really love all of that.

“There was a lot of traffic tonight”, added Roberts.

“I don’t think I’m going to stress anything about me”, he said.

Steven Okert, Will Smith, and Sergio Romo combined to pitch 3 and 2/3 scoreless innings of relief as the Giants overcame the demons that saw them blow saves in five of their last ten games. Romo retired the side in the ninth, including left-handed batters Andre Ethier and Chase Utley, as the 2012 World Series hero recorded his first save in nearly 14 months.
