Clinton up 7 points on Trump in Virginia

A Washington Post/ABC News poll last month found Clinton and Trump to be the two most unpopular presidential candidates in decades.

“The only thing that matters is that first debate”, he said. Many recent polls have shown a narrow race, and the upcoming debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., is expected to have a Super Bowl-sized audience.

Reuters/Ipsos polling shows about 20 percent of the electorate remains undecided, 12 percent undecided at this stage four years ago.

Brett O’Donnell, a debate coach who helped President George W. Bush (2004) and McCain (2008): Clinton had a shaky performance at a September 7 NBC “Commander in Chief” forum. “There is a very small Middlebury for Hillary group but it’s not generating very much excitement”. Her presentation at the Commander in Chief forum was not very good. She was able, at times, to rattle Obama enough to bring a candidate known for his cool demeanor to the brink of losing his temper. “She came off as sour and defensive”.

Trump was in Pennsylvania Thursday, trying to play to the black vote, where he is lagging far behind Clinton.

“There is a risk involved”, said Chris Galdieri, a political science professor at St. Anselm College.

In the presidential race, neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump has appeared in the state for more than a month, and unlike recent elections, the local airwaves have been relatively free of political advertising.

“Donald Trump knows, the team knows that Monday night is going to be not necessarily make or break, but the momentum coming out of Monday night could be critical on both sides and Donald Trump knows that”, said Rep. Chris Collins, a New York Republican, as he walked out of what could be the final meeting of Trump’s congressional supporters. “I think we’re going to see some give and take there”, Collins said.

The Republican presidential nominee edges Clinton 44 percent to 39 percent among likely voters nationwide in a four-way race against Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson (8 percent) and Green Party candidate Jill Stein (2 percent). Half say she’s at least somewhat civil and 42 percent view her as compassionate. “The contrast between them is what you want to hone”, she said. One looks to be hunkering down with homework, research and rehearsals, while the other seems to be taking an on-the-fly casual approach to what could be the most important 90 minutes of the presidential election.

Brett O’Donnell, a debate coach who helped President George W. Bush in his 2004 debates and McCain in 2008, said Bush did not put in the necessary work for his first debate against Democrat John Kerry that year and it showed. Kerry was judged the victor.

Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence says US society should “set aside talk” of institutional racism in the wake of more police killings of black men.

Clinton has made curbing gun violence and police brutality a central part of her candidacy.

“That’s even more appropriate”, Clinton said.

The poll has Trump up 43-40 in Nevada, 45-40 in North Carolina and 42-37 in Ohio.

Still, the Republican candidate fended off his rival on the matter of the economy.

What vulnerability do you think Clinton has at the debate?

While King was going on, Trump held a straight face until heard the N-word, to which he let out a smirk for the remainder of Don’s “flattering” introduction. Perception is often reality in politics, and following her 9/11 health scare, voters will be watching closely for any signs of tiredness, any indication that her mind is wandering. She was at home in Chappaqua, New York, all day Tuesday, and-after a day trip to Florida on Wednesday-she has no campaign events scheduled through the debate.

“Wisconsin is really no different than the rest of the country, with essentially two unpopular people running”, Maslin said in an interview from his office in Madison, the state capital.

“What he has to avoid is a sense that he is name calling, highly disrespectful, badgering, anything like that”, he said. Hillary Clinton will stand up for ordinary Americans because, for all her wealth and fame, she comes from modest roots and has served all her career at the contentious front of change.

Mizrahi says she has been trying to get the Trump campaign to respond to her group’s candidate questionnaire all year, even this week going to Trump Tower in NY to try to talk to someone.
