EFL Cup 4th Round Draw: Manchester United v Manchester City

Manchester United’s players are spotted warming up for tonight’s EFL Cup tie against Northampton Town in a auto park.

It will be the second time the rivals have met at Old Trafford in two months, following City’s 2-1 win on September 10, and the first time they have met in the EFL Cup since United’s 4-3 aggregate win in the semi-final in 2010.

EFL Cup results: Fulham 1-2 Bristol City; Northampton Town 1-3 Manchester United; Queens Park Rangers 1-2 Sunderland; Southampton 2-0 Crystal Palace; Stoke City 1-2 Hull City; Swansea City 1-2 Manchester City; West Ham 1-0 Accrington; Tottenham 5-0 Gillingham.

That game is wedged between Premier League ties with Chelsea and Burnley.

Paul Scholes fired the opener to level the aggregate score and Michael Carrick – set up by a delicious Darren Fletcher touch – doubled United’s lead on the night.

Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola were drawn against each other just 11 days after City won 2-1 at United’s ground in the Premier League.

OK, we’re only five matches into the Premier League season but let’s not let that get in the way of some fun.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said the fourth round draw for the EFL Cup is a big boost for the competition, he told reporters at a press conference, as quoted by the official Liverpool website.

Arsenal host Reading while Hull travel to the south west to face Bristol City and there is an all-Premier League clash between Southampton and Sunderland.
