The Royal Canadian Air Force has joined a massive worldwide search for two adults and a 9-year-old missing since Saturday, Sept. 17, near the Keweenaw Peninsula.

State police say they were headed to Lake Superior in a 16-foot boat Saturday, launching from the East Portage Canal.

Multiple agencies have responded to assist with the search, including an air crew from the Coast Guard Air Station in Cape Cod, which assisted with night searches.

They were reported missing Saturday night and a search was immediately put into action.

“So we want to consider all possible likelihoods of whether they’re in the water, out of the water, or where they could be so that we can plan our search appropriately”, said Commander Carolyn Moberley of the U.S. Coast Guard.

The group was in a 14-foot recreational boat owned by 61-year-old Keith Karvonen of Atlantic Mine, Mich., one of the three people missing.
