Putney told reporters the video “does not give me absolute definitive visual evidence that would confirm that a person is pointing a gun” but that the evidence “taken in totality” supports the police version of events that led to the fatal shooting of Keith Lamont Scott.

“We had a lot of looting at a lot of businesses”, Putney said, adding that state police and National Guard troops would help to secure the area on Thursday.

“When we look at what happened to Mr. Scott and what has happened around the country with individuals being shot down by law enforcement, we can’t talk about those incidents in isolation because we have to look at the root problem”, Bamberg said.

The Scott family was supposed to watch the video Thursday afternoon, according to the family’s attorney, Justin Bamberg.

The lawyer said at a news conference earlier in the day that Scott’s wife witnessed his killing, “and that’s something she will never, ever forget”. Three uniformed officers at the shooting scene had body cameras; Vinson did not, police said.

“We’ve seen videos leaked online about individuals losing their lives before the family has the opportunity to sometimes even find out”, Bamberg said.
