Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson undergoing surgery Thursday for meniscus tear

If he’s healthy by the end of the season, the Vikings could rework Peterson’s 2017 contract into an affordable bet on his future. Coleman hauled in five receptions for over 100 yards while scoring twice.

Through two games, Peterson has had difficulty finding running room behind the Vikings offensive line. McKinnon finished that season with a career-high 538 rushing yards. A trio of Jerick McKinnon, Matt Asiata and Ronnie Hillman obviously can’t replace Peterson’s production, but they offer a variety of skill sets versus Peterson’s two-down limitations. “We pride ourselves on being able to pound the rock and we have to get that rolling. But it’s part of the game”.

Have we mentioned how much we love Mike Zimmer? “So we’re going to keep plugging away and keep doing our very best to find a way to win”. I know everybody is all concerned about we don’t have this or we don’t have that, but it’s a team. “But this is a team game”. While teams occasionally have the luxury of not playing everyone on the active roster, they have 43 position players (and three specialists) – essentially backups for all positions.

Zimmer said it’s too early to say whether Hillman eventually could be the starter. Romo played four games, while Bryant played nine – most of which on a gimpy foot. “When your number is called, you have to be ready to perform”. He’s been watching the practice film on his iPad.

“That you’ve got to focus on what you can focus on now”. The running back said he’s approaching his surgery and recovery with “faith and optimism”. Whether you’re starting or you’re not starting, you have to prepare like you are.

“It’s not like they don’t have players over there”, he added. I’ve done it every year. We’re not the type of team that’s going to sit back and cry about what’s happened.

Things understandably look bleak for the Vikings offense.

Asked what his message was to a team that has now lost its starting quarterback (Teddy Bridgewater), running back and left tackle in the past three weeks, Zimmer shrugged in a way that signifies the NFL’s rugged next-man-up mantra.

ESPN reported that Peterson, the leading running back in the National Football League last season, had suffered what was known as a “bucket handle tear”.

But Asiata is convinced the Vikings can weather the storm – or, in this case, a devastating hurricane.

Jets: Cornerback Darrelle Revis says a report that he came to training camp “out of shape” and is contributing to his struggles is a result of his former agents taking “a shot” at him. The Super Bowl winning running back had a productive season in Denver a year ago, rushing for 863 yards and seven touchdowns, but saw his role decrease once the team reached the postseason.
