A man shot during a protest over the death of Keith Lamont Scott in uptown Charlotte Wednesday night has died, sources close to the victim’s family have confirmed. The police fired flash grenades and then tear gas back, dispersing the crowd of several hundred.

The protests were calmer than previous nights.

The 43-year-old’s death outraged Black Lives Matters activists, leading to a violent protest there. Justin Carr, 26, died Thursday, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police.

The chief is now investigating the incident, which is yet another instance of police shooting a black man in the US. Pat McCrory (R), who declared a state of emergency in response to the protests. Some say he was holding a book. Panthers president Danny Morrison said in a statement that the team is “in contact with government officials, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the NFL”. The family’s lawyer said he could not tell whether Mr Scott was holding a gun.

Putney also said that protesters have already made up their minds about what happened that night, despite not having seen the video. “So I’m in a position now where, if I say something, it’s going to be critiqued, and if I don’t say something, ‘Oh, you fake or you flawed'”. In Tulsa, Okla., on Thursday, prosecutors charged a white officer with manslaughter for killing an unarmed black man on a city street last week.

However, a gun was recovered at the scene, the chief said. But, he maintained that when taken “in the totality. of other evidence, it supports what we said”.

“After watching the videos”, the attorney said, “the family again has more questions than answers”. He said Scott gets out of his vehicle calmly.

Police gave Scott other commands and he “did not aggressively approach them or raise his hands” at officers, the statement said. But Sen. Scott added, “I will say however that the releasing of the video can defuse some of the tension if what we’ll see on the video is helpful”. The lawyer also says that when Scott was killed, his hands were at his side and he was backing away slowly.

Six officers suffered minor injuries, paramedics said.

Police gave few details about the incident.

Police have said Scott disregarded multiple warnings to drop a weapon he was holding when they confronted him Tuesday afternoon near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
