Prosecutors say Rovinski, of Warwick, Rhode Island, plotted with two MA men to behead Geller.
“I feel that in the interest of myself and the people of the United States, that I should pay for the crimes that I have committed”, Rovinski told Judge William G. Young at the John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse.
Nicholas Alexander Rovinski, 25, of Warwick, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to support ISIS and to committing acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries, under an agreement he serve 15 to 22 years in prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release.
Rovinski is scheduled to be sentenced on March 23.
Prosecutors say Rovinski, of Warwick, plotted with two MA men to kill Geller. She angered Muslims when she organized a Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest in 2015. The plot was stopped before it was carried out.
A court complaint alleges Rovinski, Rahim and Rahim’s nephew, David Wright, plotted to “wage acts of terrorism” that involved beheading blogger Pamela Geller and killing cops.
Rovinski’s lawyer said Tuesday that the 25-year-old was a “vulnerable young man who fell deep into a rabbit hole of extremist ideology”. When asked if his son was remorseful, the man said, “Evidently, if he took something like that”.
She said Rovinski began downloading the terrorist group’s propaganda on the Internet, including its online magazine, an instruction manual on how to travel to Syria, and videos of beheadings. Hussain was killed in a USA drone strike in Syria in August 2015.
