Cesc on Chelsea win: ‘We played well, we showed great character’

Even seven changes from Friday’s 2-1 Premier League win at Chelsea did not halt their momentum. Whatever I am, I will support the team, inside or outside.

Cesc Fabregas insists he never considered leaving Chelsea despite his lack of game time under new manager Antonio Conte.

As things stand, the World Cup victor is expected to be warming the substitutes’ bench when Chelsea take on his former club Arsenal at the Emirates in their next league encounter.

Finally Fabregas says that he enjoys a warm relationship the Chelsea manager: “I have spoken with Conte; he is a coach who has a very particular playing philosophy.We like him a lot”.

Having opened his Arsenal account with a 35-yard thunderbolt in the Premier League win over Hull at the weekend, the summer signing chose to try his luck again, and while this strike was nowhere near as powerful, it still found its way in, via a deflection and iffy keeping from Vladimir Stojkovic. “Hopefully, he can see what I’m doing and that I deserve to play”.

With the extra man, Chelsea controlled the rest of the game and won by a comfortable two-goal margin in the end.

Chelsea were poor defensively as both Cahill and David Luiz struggled, but the visitors deserved victory after Diego Costa was introduced as a second-half substitute.

Shinji Okazaki netted his first brace for Leicester City after failing to score in his previous 13 games for the Foxes.

“If you have to analyse me, maybe I’m a bit more the playmaker, creative going forward and he wants me to be a little bit more stable and compact in defence”, Fabregas said.

Leicester’s Marcin Wasilewski was sent off a minute before the end of normal time as the hosts failed to build on their fine start.
