Charlotte protestor dies after being shot in the head Wednesday

Police contend that he was carrying a gun when he approached officers and ignored repeated orders to drop it.

A curfew has been imposed between midnight local time and 6am on Friday.

Police said Carr was shot in a civilian-on-civilian incident Wednesday night, during protests that led to at least 44 arrests.

There are still conflicting stories about what exactly happened in the moments before Scott’s death.

Four police officers also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, city officials said. A murder investigation is under way. Pat McCrory (R), who declared a state of emergency in response to the protests.

“We have great folks in our community who really want this to be peaceful and want us to have constructive dialogue to move our city forward”, she said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” show.

So far, police have resisted releasing police dashcam and body camera footage of Scott’s death on Tuesday.

Scott’s demanor was calm and non-aggressive, said Bamberg, who called upon CMPD to release the videos publicly in the name of transparency.

In a statement, family lawyer Justin Bamberg said though the videos were hard to watch, their release would serve transparency and the greater public good.

“After peaceful protests, additional protesters joined and started blocking roadways while moving to transit center, Putney said”. “I’m not going to jeopardise the investigation”.

The governor of North Carolina took the drastic decision after carnage on the streets of Charlotte following the police killing of Keith Lamont Scott as it emerged there is “no definitive evidence” that he was holding a gun.

“The footage I have seen doesn’t give me that vantage point”, Putney told Wolf Blitzer on CNN. But, he maintained that when taken “in the totality. of other evidence, it supports what we said”.

“This family has questions and they deserve answers”, Bamberg said. He said Scott gets out of his vehicle calmly.

“When he was shot and killed, Mr. Scott’s hands were by his side and he was slowly walking backwards”, Bamberg said. Vinson allegedly shot and killed Scott.

“Anywhere in the world, we’re Americans”, said James Scott, sitting in the back room of No Grease barber shop in Charlotte on Thursday afternoon.

That is the first time anyone connected with the case has said Scott’s wife witnessed the shooting. Bamberg acknowledged that he had seen the photo, but said that because he did not know the origin of it, it would be irresponsible of him to speak on it. Still, Putney told the news conference that he’ll only show the footage to the victim’s family, not the public.

Putney told Blitzer that he was not releasing any video – though he would let Scott’s family view it – because “I have to do what I can to protect the integrity of the investigation”.

He said it was “irresponsible” of police not to release the video immediately.
