Brissett got the start for the Pats on Thursday night against the Houston Texans because Tom Brady is serving his four-game suspension for Deflategate, while backup Jimmy Garoppolo is out with a shoulder injury.

Brady led the Patriots to the Super Bowl title that year – and three more – relinquishing the job only in 2008, when he was injured, and again this year when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell benched him four games for his role in a scheme to use improperly inflated footballs in the 2015 AFC title game.

The Houston Texans (2-0) are looking to stay undefeated after they outlasted the Kansas City Chiefs, 19-12, last week in which quarterback Brock Osweiler threw for 268 yards and a touchdown but with two interceptions in 19-for-33 passes. New England’s Duran Harmon recovered the fumble and the Patriots offense was in business from the Houston 22 yard line.

As for the Texans, Thursday represented the first time they were shut out in the regular season since Week 14 in 2003, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Brissett may keep the starting quarterback position next week for the Patriots’ home game against Buffalo next weekend. Tom Brady’s four-game ban ends after the Bills game, and he will be expected to step straight back into the team ahead of the trip to Cleveland on October 9th.

The Patriots added a field goal on their first possession of the third quarter, and a fumble by the Texans on the ensuing kickoff allowed New England to seize a commanding 20-0 lead behind a one-yard touchdown run by Blount.

“I’ll take the blame tonight and become a better quarterback because of this”, Osweiler said, according to the team’s Twitter account.

GRONK’S DAY: Rob Gronkowski finally made his 2016 debut after sitting out the first two weeks of the season nursing a sore hamstring. “There is nothing really in my mind that comes out good, but what I will say is that there is a resilient team in that locker room”.

I got a headache from all the head bobbing and head bumping.

Bill Belichick isn’t known for his glowing praise of his teams during the season.

Kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who’s found ways to subvert the NFL’s new touchback rule all season, forced the Texans to return three of his six kickoffs, and two of those returns resulted in fumbles. The touchdown run was the second-longest by a Patriots quarterback since 1976. It was the first time since Drew Bledsoe in 1993 that New England had started a rookie quarterback. It’s the third time in his career he has had back-to-back 100-yard games, and the first time since 2011.

“I was just running until I got stopped”, Brissett said. “I wouldn’t really want anything to deflect the credit that they deserve for what they accomplished tonight”.
