Qantas passengers evacuated in Australia amid fumes in cabin

Local media reported that 102 people were evacuated from the plane after reports of fumes in the cockpit of the QantasLink aircraft were spotted, forcing passengers to disembark using emergency slides.

A Qantas plane flying out of Sydney has landed back in Sydney after problems with the landing gear.

Passengers and five crew were forced to evacuate the stricken QantasLink Flight QF1623 via an inflatable slide at about 11.48am.

There are unconfirmed reports a Qantas flight has been evacuated at Perth Airport.

Ross Jenkins, who was among the passengers on the plane, told PerthNow he could smell a kerosene-like substance but saw no smoke.

“A Qantas-link aircraft.it’s landed and it’s gone up the end of the runway”, he said.

‘We came down a bit steeper than what we would normally. The captain then ordered an evacuation.

“It was all pretty controlled and we were moved to a clear paddock away from any immediate danger”.

The plane landed at 11.36am as emergency services waited on the ground as a precaution.
