Police told of finding at least 40 different girls in the videos.
According to an affidavit, Jones created more than 50 videos on a hard drive that were made inside a closet of the music room at Napier Elementary School. The secretly recorded videos relate to Jones’ position as a music teacher at Napier Elementary School from 2011-2015.
Jones, 30, taught music most recently at Antioch High School, and was placed on administrative leave September 9, one day after the court documents say he admitted to recording the girls.
Bass also said according to state law, parents do not have to be notified before their child is interviewed in an investigation.
The investigation began after Jones asked a colleague at Antioch High to help him with a computer problem.
The local sheriff’s department charged Jones with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor-all felony offenses. We do not have information at this juncture that there was sexual contact between these students and Mr. Jones, ‘ Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron told the paper. We asked Metro Schools Spokesperson Joe Bass why some parents were not notified.
Meanwhile, prosecutors asked a judge to raise Jones’ bond, now set at $100,000, because of the likelihood he will face scores of charges, each of which carry mandatory sentences of eight to 12 years. Additional charges are expected to be filed against Jones, who is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
At the Napier parent meeting, Tony Majors, Metro Schools chief support services officer, said incidents of teachers engaging in an inappropriate relationship with students in the district are rare.
That colleague, cops say, saw questionable items on the computer and alerted authorities. She then puts the choir shirt on over it. She is seen later returning to change back into her school shirt.
During the parent meeting, district officials said they will provide counseling and mental health resources at the school to any families that need assistance.
Jones is accused of filming the girls while they were changing for musicals, which is not school or district policy, said Principal Watechia Lawless. She said there are many types of devices that can be used for recording.
