GM unveils new compact Chevy SUV in super-competitive market
The SUV’s exterior has design cues and sculpted shapes seen on Chevy’s newer Volt, Malibu and Cruze cars. At the back, horizontal taillights emphasize the Equinox’s width, and blacked-out trim gives the impression of a wraparound rear window for a sleeker look. The windshield base is lower, for a better view from the driver’s seat.

A new structure saves 400 pounds over the current Equinox, part of it likely due to the fact that the new Equinox is roughly 4 inches shorter than its predecessor, at 183 inches long.
Inside, the instrument panel is a bit lower, as well, to aid forward vision. The interior features options such as the two-tone combination of light brown leather and black accents in the photo, as well as denim-like upholstery, 7- or 8-inch MyLink infotainment systems complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility or flat-folding rear seats.
The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox hopes to change that.
Chevrolet’s latest connectivity technologies are front and center, including 7- and 8-inch-diagonal MyLink infotainment systems created to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as an available OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
“We needed to develop a vehicle that allowed them to check off every box”.
And bucking recent “death of diesel” predictions, one of those three will be a 1.6-liter diesel that gets a 40-mpg highway rating.
There will be three powertrains available – 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 gas engines, and a 1.6-liter turbodiesel I4, which will probably make its way to the Cruze at some point in the future. “The advantage for each is the power of a larger engine and the fuel economy of a smaller engine”. That includes the expected segment-exclusive 1.6L turbo-diesel that will offer customers excellent efficiency and capability.
Holden communications boss Mark Flintoff said: “Alongside the new Trax, Trailblazer and upcoming Acadia (full-size SUV), Equinox means Holden will have four new SUVs within two years”.
Although the Chevrolet Equinox was updated recently previous year, sales report of the model showed that the vehicle needed more updates to become a more marketable product.

The gasoline versions of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox go on sale in spring 2017, with the diesel following in the summer.
