Colin Kaepernick Says He Received Death Threats Since National Anthem Protest

So, I think, again, (Kaepernick) is shedding light on the situation that is heinous and shouldn’t happen in this country. The kneeling is meant to show more respect for veterans.

By kneeling at the beginning of football games, Kaepernick has evoked minor hysteria from both sides of the field.

“I want to make sure that not only am I transparent about what I’m doing but these organisations are transparent about where the money is going as well”, he said.

“It’s something they either don’t care about it or they don’t understand it, which I find it very hard that people don’t understand what’s going on”, Kaepernick said. “It’s not something I haven’t thought about”.

Kaepernick also touched on the recent killing of Terrence Crutcher, an Oklahoma man who was gunned down by police, although he wasn’t found with a weapon.

“I can confirm that to this point we haven’t received any reports and aren’t investigating any allegations of threats against Mr. Kaepernick”, Captain Wahid Kazem said.

However, Kaepernick is more popular than ever among African-Americans.

The headline on the cover reads, “The Perilous Fight”, and the subhead reads, “National anthem protests led by Colin Kaepernick are fueling a debate about privilege, pride and patriotism”. Since he started the demonstration last month, the protest became a national story, and other NFL players, along with USA women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe, have joined in. “They shot and killed a man and walked around like it wasn’t a human being”, he added.

The quarterback’s willingness to be an example to young people of color is commendable, even if he’s preaching to the choir about police reform. No one went and checked on him. “That’s not right and they should be in prison for that”.

Kaepernick said he had been the target of taunts throughout Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Meanwhile, Kaepernich has said he would donate $1m (£770,000) of his salary this season to local communities that support his protest over the next 10 months.

He has a team now vetting potential charities and says he will launch a website listing his donations and how the money is spent.
