Tough job for moderators

“I heard Hillary Clinton say I was not against the war in Iraq”.

Speaking at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, Pence depicted the billionaire businessman as a fitting heir to the Reagan legacy.

“I have a plan” said Trump.

He said that Trump supporters are “not a basket of anything”, adding, they are “members of every class of this country who know that we can make America great again”. He had a chance to create a new narrative: If war is a failure of diplomacy, then Trump could say he’s uniquely qualified to use his talents to end all wars.

OK, so Lauer did push back a bit on Trump’s praise of Putin-whom Trump has lauded as a great leader, apparently for calling Trump’s “brilliant”-noting that Putin is at work in the world undermining US interests, and is implicated in the hacking of the email system of the Democratic National Committee”.

Some of Trump’s foreign policy positions, such as his proposal to fight terrorism by imposing a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country, have alarmed not just Democrats but many in his own party’s leadership. “For the sake of the nation, the moderators need to be fully prepared to challenge the candidates, so voters can have a clear picture of how they will lead”. She also flushed out several national security priorities if she is elected, including trying to take out the leader of the Islamic State and vowing to defeat the extremist group without putting US troops on the ground in Iraq or Syria.

“Matt Lauer can take tough questions to very powerful people”, he insisted, proving it with a clip.

“It is beyond anyone’s imagination to have a candidate for president praising a Russian autocrat like Vladimir Putin”, she said.

“I’m asking to be judged on the totality of my record”, said Clinton, who grew visibly irritated at times with the repeated focus on her past actions. “I want parents to be able to exercise choice within the public school system – not outside of it – but within it, because I am still a firm believer that the public school system is one of the real pillars of our democracy and it is a path for opportunity”, she said in November 2015. That’s the threshold needed for him to have a spot in the first presidential debate on September 26. Perhaps, as The New York Times suggested, he was unprepared, or maybe he had barely been paying attention to Clinton-the former secretary of state had already stated that Trump supported the war before, during, and after the invasion.

Online critics hit Lauer for spending too much time on Clinton’s email server and trying to cut her answers short during Wednesday’s NBC forum on national security issues.

Clinton replied, “I have been somewhat heartened by the number of articles recently pointing out the quite disparate treatment of Trump and his campaign compared to ours- I don’t understand the reasons for it”.

Clinton’s campaign acknowledges that some of her liabilities stem from self-imposed errors, including her difficulty explaining the decision to install a private email server in her NY home. The Washington Post’s Phil Rucker tweeted.

The discrepancy between the two 30-minute interviews was quickly picked up by viewers, who united online under the banner, “Lauering the Bar”. The forum was a preview to a highly anticipated debate and a glimpse of what they can expect from both candidates.
