IN THE GROVE: Ospina stakes his claim

Arsenal came from behind at Parc des Princes to earn a draw against Paris Saint-Germain in the first league game of group A of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League.

“We wanted to start at a high pace and after a minute we are 1-0 down”, said Arsenal boss Wenger.

Ospina kept Arsenal in the game when he made two good saves in quick succession, first coming off his line to smother an attempt from Aurier before denying Cavani when the forward was one-on-one with the keeper.

PSG went back on the attack 12 minutes later and they should have had a second when Verratti’s pass found its way to Cavani, who took the ball around Ospina, but sliced his shot wide with an open goal at his mercy. “If they do not play, you can’t keep two world-class goalkeepers”.

“But we have an in-house rule that the keepers know”.

He said: “It’s a good point for us”.

Speaking after the game, Cavani said: “We played a great game”.

The French Champions were in sensational form heading into the Group A opener having lost just one of their past 40 home games in Europe. The second one, I didn’t understand why Verratti got down on the grass. “If they change, I’ll tell them”.

PSG played out a 1-1 draw against Arsenal in Champions League on Tuesday.

However, Wenger has revealed that Walcott was forced to miss the match as he was in fact left back in North London after picking up a knee injury – but thankfully the Frenchman also says the problem is “very short term”.

Marco Veratti will also miss the game against Bulgarian club Ludogorets, and PSG will surely miss the player who controlled the midfield for them against Arsenal.

“I have full confidence in Edinson”.

Ex-defender Lee Dixon made no secret of his frustrations as he spoke on ITV’s Champions League highlights show on Tuesday night, alongside Irish assistant manager Roy Keane.

The Chilean worldwide started the game as Arsenal’s central striker but looked much more comfortable when shifted to the flank after Giroud was substituted onto the pitch.
