Saban: Alabama QB Jake Coker out with minor foot injury

Coker, who was sidelined with a minor foot injury, returned to practice Wednesday afternoon and according to several media reports, he had few effects from the injury that kept him out just two days. Saban voiced his frustration with the competition on Saturday after an intra-squad scrimmage. Alabama will put together a total of 28 practices leading up to the season opener with Wisconsin inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on September 5.

This spring, redshirt freshman David Cornwell proved to be a strong competitor, but his lack of experience might keep him on the bench for now. Saban did say following Saturday’s scrimmage that “one guy was better than another”, but didn’t give names and no stats were released.

“We’ll continue to evaluate it on a day-to-day basis”, Saban said, “and see where it takes us”. With Blake Sims moving on, the Crimson Tide are looking to find the next starting quarterback to lead Lane Kiffin’s offense in 2015.

The second scrimmage is the final big opportunity for the quarterbacks to impress during the preseason.
