Patriots edge Cardinals in first game without star QB Brady

The Patriots found themselves facing in a third-and-15 right off the bat on their ensuing possession.

Asked if he was personally angry, helpless or nervous, Brady said it was none of those things, as he was interested in what the Patriots were doing and how adjustments were made. Jimmy Garoppolo led the Brady-less and Gronkowski-less Patriots to an impressive victory in Arizona in Week 1 to move up the rankings.

Last night during the Patriots game against the Cardinals, you may have noticed a certain stand-in quarterback’s old tweets circulating around the good ol’ interwebs as various people dug through his archives and retweeted his thoughts. “They outplayed us and we will learn from it and grow from it and continue. There’s a long way to go and regroup and see if we can win the next one”.

The snap from Kameron Canady, a long snapper, was low and holder Drew Butler did not get the ball in terrific position.

Notes: Arians said defensive tackle Frostee Rucker will miss two to three weeks with an MCL sprain. “I’ll make the next one”. Meanwhile, more than 30 percent of those who play in survivor pools breathed a huge sigh of relief when Russell Wilson led the Seahawks on a late touchdown drive for a come-from-behind 12-10 victory over Miami. He had a good rhythm for most of the game, and never seemed to convey that the game was too big for him.

Keim said Monday morning he doesn’t believe in good losses.

Garoppolo displayed good mechanics and play-making.

“It wasn’t just the young players”, he said, “but it was a lot of young players that got caught up in everything that was going on”. Larry Fitzgerald was brilliant, as we’ve all come to expect throughout his career, catching eight passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite slogging through much of the game, Arizona had a chance to grab a lead with:36 left, but Chandler Catanzaro’s 47-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left, handing Jimmy Garoppolo his first win as an National Football League starter and the Cardinals their first loss in a season opener since Bruce Arians’ first year as head coach in 2013.

“I watched that one channel, that Red Zone channel, that captures everything”, Brady said.

Arians also took aim at pass-rusher Chandler Jones and safety D.J. Swearinger after they were flagged for a celebration: “One of the things that has not happened around here will not happen again-or you won’t be here”. The defense played great, special teams. “The offense did a great job of giving us the opportunity”.

“We were obviously not ready to play”.

The Cardinals had a chance to win it, driving to the Patriots’ 29-yard line in the final minute of play. Despite the pressure, Jimmy maintained his composure during his first start for the patriots.

Kansas City needed 10 plays to march 75 yards in overtime, and Smith finished off the biggest comeback in franchise history with his keeper from the 2-yard line on third-and-goal. On the first drive of the game, with first down at the Arizona 37, Hogan deked out rookie cornerback Brandon Williams and was wide open down the left sideline.

The New England turnovers were followed by the first two Arizona touchdowns.

“I’m glad to put it behind me so I don’t have to talk about it anymore”, he said.
