Kemp’s 2 homers power Braves to 6-3 win over Marlins

It’s a nice sign heading into 2017, though.

Matt Kemp slugged two home runs and had three RBIs as the Atlanta Braves won their sixth game in a row, defeating the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Thursday night at Marlins Park. “When he swings that bat, man, it goes”. That triple was Inciarte’s first play since Wednesday night in NY, where he raced back to a similar spot on the field – right-center – and took a home run away from Yoenis Cespdes that kept the Mets from a walk-off win.

“It’s been good”, Kemp said. We were thinking about taking him out at that point in time, cause Dietrich’s not that good against lefties, but we had to decide when to ask [Scherzer], and we take him out and then bring in a lefty then they had [Giancarlo] Stanton over there waiting so you’ve kind of got to pick your poison in that situation so we made a decision to go with Scherzer, it didn’t work, but fortunately for us our guys came right back and got those runs, all but one run back. “It would be way more fun doing those type of things and being in a race, but for us to finish strong and show everybody what the offense and what this team is capable of going into the final weeks of the season is very important for next year”. He was hammered for seven runs on six hits in two innings against the Braves on September 12 – the third time with the Marlins he has allowed six or more runs – and only lasted four innings in allowing three runs Sunday at Philadelphia. “Just playing with a lot of enthusiasm and energy”.

“I was moving the ball in and out, changing speeds – that’s what I do”, Collmenter said. “I was able to jam some guys and make them chase some pitches”.

Mauricio Cabrera pitched the ninth for his fifth save in six chances.

Miami’s J.T. Realmuto hit a solo homer in the seventh to cut Atlanta’s lead to 6-2. Fortunately, Bour only flew out to left field, and that ended the scoring threat for Miami. Freddie Freeman lined a two-run single just over the head of second baseman Dee Gordon and Kemp followed with the first of his homers, a two-run shot to left. Kemp said. “That’s pretty cool”. It’s the longest active hit streak in the majors and the longest by a Braves player since Dan Uggla had a run of 33 in 2011.

After relying on the Atlanta Braves to beat the New York Mets and lower the magic number to win the NL East on Monday and Tuesday, the Washington Nationals took Wednesday’s series finale with the Miami Marlins to help themselves. Freeman has also reached base in 42 consecutive games.

Kemp, acquired from the San Diego Padres on July 30, leads the Braves with 33 homers and 104 RBIs.

“You get down early it’s tough on your club”, Marlins manager Don Mattingly said.

Urena gave up a quick run in the first inning before the Braves polished him off in the third on a pair of two-out hits that each produced two runs.

Marlins starter Jose Urena (4-8) allowed five runs and four hits in three innings.

Inciarte’s impressive catch in Wednesday’s 4-3 win at the New York Mets is the highlight of his potential Gold Glove-winning season.

“They’ve got a good ballclub”. Wisler has allowed two runs or fewer in three of his last four starts including an eight-inning, one-run performance at Arizona on August 25.
